FREE WEBINAR: Trimble RealWorks & The Deliverable Point Cloud

Posted by CSDS Blog on Wed, Aug 17, 2011 @ 11:31 AM

BIM Software ImageAs part of the its Fast Track Webinar Series, Trimble will present a complimentary webinar on Wednesday, August 24, dedicated to uncovering the true "Scan to BIM" workflow. The one-hour presentation will cover the basic principles of processing a point cloud to create a deliverable that a contractor can use for project analysis.

The processes covered will include:

  •     registration of point clouds
  •     basic modeling functions
  •     export of point cloud data

Questions Trimble will address include:

  •     What type of deliverables should I be asking for?
  •     What do I do with the model and how do I integrate it (E57 format) into my existing 3D modeling suite?
  •     What are the options available today for incorporating scanning into my organization?
  •     What are the basics of how to utilize RealWorks to convert scan cloud data into a 3D model?
  •     How do I bring Realworks raw cloud data into NavisWorks?

Designed for contractors looking to implement laser scanning, this session will be a high level overview to give a better understanding of the processes necessary to take advantage of the power of laser scanning.

Posted by CSDS Blog on Tue, Mar 08, 2011 @ 11:22 AM

By utilizing spatial imaging solutions, land surveyors can now combine the precision of traditional point surveying with the compelling impact of images and scanning. Developed specifically to complement traditional surveying workflows, Trimble 3D laser scanners are designed to minimize your time to deliverable and expedite activities from field data collection through processing and deliverable creation.

If you are thinking about incorporating 3D laser scanning into your business and want to learn more, CSDS invites you to view this short video by Trimble certified trainer, Tom Cardenas entitled:

Processing Data from a Trimble FX Scanner

The presentation will cover:

  • Setting Project Preferences in Realworks 6.5
  • Importing Control Coordinates
  • Importing Raw FX Data (TZS files)
  • Extracting Point Clouds from the TZS Files
  • Quickly & Easily Registering (stitching) Each Scan to create a complete point cloud of the scanned object

What role is BIM currently playing in your construction projects?

Posted by CSDS Blog on Thu, Dec 30, 2010 @ 03:45 PM

With BIM (Building Information Modeling) becoming more widespread in the construction industry, it might be time to consider how you can put it to work in your organization in the year ahead. At its recent Dimensions 2010 conference, Trimble announced a "BIM to Field" initiative that will focus on helping building owners, contractors and engineers better understand the potential of solutions that allow the transfer of BIM data to field level systems for increased productivity and cost savings. The initiative is comprised of industry leading solution providers including Accubid, Micro Application Packages LTD (MAP), QuickPen, Tekla, Trimble, Technical Sales International (TSI) and Vela Systems. Each partner has developed unique products and solutions that provide key elements to aid in delivering BIM data to the field. One of the first orders of business by the Alliance, has been the launching of www.BIMtoField.com, a central resource for case studies, videos, white papers and best practices learned from the industry.

The BIM movement will continue to change how the building construction industry conducts business with far reaching implications, as it can encompass all phases of the construction spectrum-from planning, bidding and designing to building and management. Thus far the industry as been primarily focused on the creation and maintenance of design elements or plans created in the office. However, that is only half the picture according to Pat Bohle, general manager of Trimble's Building Construction Division. "We believe that the data created in back-office applications must also reside in field systems in order to provide greater accuracy and deliver maximum efficiency. The BIM to Field initiative is a way for Trimble and our partners to bring a level of understanding to the solutions and best practices that can be utilized within the industry."

If you would like to learn more about the BIM to Field initiative, receive information on future seminars and webinars, or meet with a construction layout specialist to educate your crew on the products available to help you transfer BIM data to the field, please email: sales@csdsinc.com
